The Jefferson Humanists, a chapter of the American Humanists Association, is again marching in the Denver Pride Fest Parade on Sunday, June 18. We welcome other humanists and anyone who supports LGBT rights to join us. If you are interested in marching with us RSVP to this Meetup or contact Nancy Bolt atnancybolt@earthlink.net.
We will also be staffing an information booth to promote our group and other local humanist groups (Secular Hub, Colorado Humanists, Freedom from Religion Foundation) during the whole weekend of PrideFest. Here are the basics:
When is the parade? Sunday, June 18th, Father’s Day
Who should march? Anyone who is a humanist, atheist, agnostic, or just supports LGBT rights.
Where is the parade? The march goes from Cheeseman Park to the downtown Civic Center via Colfax.
When and where do we meet? We need to gather at 8:30 am in the morning in Cheeseman Park. The parade starts at 9:30am. No cars are allowed in Cheeseman Park so park where you can and walk to the park.
We are in the PURPLE section on the EAST side of the park, spot # 7. LOOK FOR THE JEFFERSON HUMANIST BANNER
When will we be done? The March starts at 9:30 and usually ends between 11 and 11:30 depending on how fast the parade actually moves.
What should I wear? It is usually hot and sunny, so a hat and comfortable shoes. BRING WATER and sunscreen as well.
Is there anything special I need to know? Yes. We are not allowed to hand out anything and absolutely no dogs are allowed. It’s hot on their feet and against Parade rules.
Will we carry a banner? Yes, the Jefferson Humanists banner. We are only allowed to carry one banner. It’s light and we will switch carriers often so no one gets tired.
Should I wear anything special? We have some flags and beads. Dress colorfully. Wear a Humanist T-shirt if you have one.
How will we celebrate our marching accomplishment?
We will celebrate our march at the SLICEWORKS at 700 E. Colfax Ave. about noon with a beer and a no-host lunch. Join us and make new friends.
