Title: The Israel-Palestine Tragedy: An Archetype for Suffering
Speaker: Richard Forer
Description: Rich Forer will articulate the fundamental roots of suffering, especially as revealed through the Israel-Palestine tragedy which is, in many ways, an archetype of how human beings create a world of suffering for self and other. As part of this discussion, he will demonstrate that events that unfold in our common everyday world are reflections of a deeper and hidden world of unconscious thought processes that often induce so many of us to support injustice in the name of justice. He will show the self-destructive nature of the unexamined mind that unknowingly projects its suffering onto the other and then blames or scapegoats the other for its suffering.
Biography: Raised Jewish, for his entire life Richard Forer, supported Israeli policy, believing the Jewish State always defending itself against terrorism and always ready to make peace with its neighbors. In 2006, he underwent a profound spiritual awakening that led him to write his book, Breakthrough: Transforming Fear into Compassion – A New Perspective on the Israel-Palestine Conflict. A former member of AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) with orthodox relatives living in settlements in the West Bank, Richard has been to the West Bank a few times as well as to the Gaza Strip in November 2012.
