What is Humanism?
Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity. Humanists believe in critical thinking and evidence over established doctrine or faith.
What is the American Humanist Association (AHA)?
The American Humanist Association is a national association with the mission of promoting and advancing the principles of Humanism. AHA has Chapters in all 50 states. More About the AHA.
Do you have to live in Jefferson County to belong to the Jefferson Humanists Chapter?
No. We welcome interested members from throughout the Denver metro and surrounding area.
What does it cost to join Jefferson Humanists?
An individual membership is $35 annually or $50 for couples/partners. Sustaining membership is $100 or more annually. Sustaining memberships may be paid monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually. The Jefferson Humanists Chapter is a 501(C) (3), non-profit organization.
How often does Jefferson Humanists meet and where?
The Jefferson Humanists meet on the 4th Sunday of each month at 5 PM at the Jefferson Unitarian Church, 14350 West 32nd Ave, Golden, CO 80401. Up-to-date information on upcoming meetings can be found on this website and on our Meetup site.
Can I come to meetings if I’m not a member?
Yes. While we hope you will join Jefferson Humanists, you do not have to be a member in order to attend the meetings.
What kinds of programs are offered at meetings?
There are speakers on Humanism and a variety of other issues of interest to our members. Meetings typically include a lecture and discussion followed by a buffet supper for a small donation.
Do the Jefferson Humanists participate in any social justice/social action programs?
We have a Social Responsibility Committee. Past projects include providing toiletries and other personal items for the Family Tree Women’s Shelter and collecting contributions for the United Nation’s Refugee Program. In addition, we recently participated in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation Coat Drive & Holiday Gift Project sponsored by Village Earth.
What is the Humanist Manifesto?
The Humanist Manifesto explains a Humanist Worldview and life stance. It was developed and signed by multiple authors and published in documents dated 1933, 1973, and 2003. You can view the Manifesto and its history at:
