When: Sunday, August 25, 2019, 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Where: Jefferson Unitarian Church, 14350 W 32nd Ave · Golden Climate
“Climate Justice Revisited” with Dr. Jonathan Ormes. “Climate Justice” is working at the intersection of environmental degradation and the racial, social, and economic inequities it perpetuates. We all know what we mean by climate. The presentation will focus on its relationship to Justice. Justice itself is, of course, one of the modern myths by which we try to live. It is a humanist value many of us have agreed is important for society. We have uncountable examples of how justice is not served. Can justice be served and sustained in a future in which the environment is further degraded by human activities? In advance, members of the audience may be interested in reading two articles that offer insight into the moral and ethical dilemmas. The articles can be found on the JH website: https://www.jeffersonhumanists.org/ They are, “A Moral Code for a Finite World” and “Four Ethical Approaches” below.

CLOTHING DRIVE In August, Humanists Helping Humanity, the social responsibility group of the Jefferson Humanists, is collecting new or very gently used clothing for the Serving Kids program, which provides new or nearly new clothing to Jeffco school children in need. Jefferson Humanists can help in this worthwhile effort by bringing to the Chapter Meeting on August 25 any new or gently used clothing suitable for pre-school, elementary, middle-school and high-school children. Underwear and socks are also needed, and these items must be new. Please consider helping! We’ll be happy to collect any personal hygiene items for donation to The Action Center as well.
