About the Speaker: Howard Ruffner was witness to one of the tragedies of American Life when four Kent State students were killed on the Kent State campus by members of the National Guard.
On Casper Mountain in 2014, Ruffner met friends Rebecca and Geoff Hunt, history professors in Colorado. They reminded him that as an eyewitness to history he had an obligation to share his story by writing it. His book, they reminded him, would be an historical document to be read and discussed by academics and others interested in the facts surrounding the killing of four students at Kent State. He credits them for giving him the push to write his book.
After nearly four years, he completed the writing. Kent State University Press will publish his book in early 2019, in time for the 50 anniversary of the tragedy in 2020. The book is titled The Truth About Kent State May 1970, A Photographer’s Journey.
Join us in September to hear Howard talk about his experiences.
