Nine hardy souls braved the chill and a light wind on Sunday morning, March 20, 2022, to enjoy the first sunrise of spring. We all rose early and arrived before sunrise at the top of Red Rocks amphitheater. When we arrived we saw 30 or 40 others who decided to do the same thing. At 7:04 am, the sun broke the horizon directly east and provided a spectacular display of orange and red to the delight of all attending.
After the sunrise, a few of us hiked the Red Rocks Trading Post Trail. It was short (about 1.5 miles), but offered some challenges, because it goes straight down the valley to Morrison and then requires a hike back up to the amphitheater. We saw deer and a hawk and started the spring right with some exercise.
Several who attended our sunrise gathering got together afterwards at a local coffee shop for fellowship and breakfast. It was well worth a little less sleep to greet the dawning of a new spring.
